Why I started Trades of America

I've worked in manufacturing my whole career. As a project engineer, I work with skilled tradespeople every single day — and honestly, they're some of the smartest, most capable people I've ever met. They are masters of their craft. A lot of them should be running their own companies instead of building someone else's.

So I started asking them a simple question: why haven't you? Almost every one gave me the same answer — the business side. The paperwork. The taxes. The setup. Not the work — never the work. That never sat right with me.

The paperwork shouldn't be the thing that stops a great electrician or HVAC tech from putting their own name on their work.

That's exactly why I built Trades of America. The deal is simple: you do what you're great at — the work — and I'll handle the business side for you. You put your own name on your work, and you own 100% of it.

I'll be straight with you: I'm not going to claim I've spent twenty years wiring houses or brazing line sets — I haven't. What I bring is different, and it's exactly what the trades I work with are missing.

First, I've spent my career shoulder-to-shoulder with tradespeople, which means I understand precisely where the business side trips good people up. Second, I've been through the entire business-setup process myself. When I built Trades of America, I formed the LLC, obtained the EIN, set up the banking and the bookkeeping, worked through the licensing research, and stood up the website, the business phone, and the marketing — every step. So the guides on this site aren't rewritten from someone else's template. They come from having actually done the work.
